Hertz ML 280.3 Legend pair of 28mm tweeters from the Mille .3 line - Max power 180W

Improving a tweeter that is considered a reference like the previous ML 280 is a very challenging task that can only be accomplished with continuous evolution over time and extreme attention to every detail that has a consequence on sound. From these premises the ML 280.3 Legend was born. Electroacoustic designers, through FEA simulations, conducted an extensive research that led to the optimization of the Tetolon dome geometry to minimize distortion.

This optimization methodology also led to a revisitation of the faceplate geometry to improve frequency response and dispersion. Another component of the tweeter of particular importance for sound is the rear acoustic chamber: designers conducted exhaustive research on the geometry and damping material employed, arriving at an increase in total volume of 50% so as to extend the response towards lower frequencies with a resonance frequency of just 900Hz.

The magnetic assembly consists of a Neodymium ring and polar plates in steel with very low carbon content to guarantee very high permeability and thus raise the threshold of magnetic saturation. This characteristic guarantees absolute control of the voice coil, making it possible to obtain sound reproduction free of non-linearity with very dynamic transients. The particular design of the magnetic group describes in space a perfect field symmetry for superior energy transfer and linearity of movement of the mobile assembly even in the most demanding audio passages.

The upper pole covered by a ring of very pure copper short circuit generates an anti-inductive effect linearizing the trend of the impedance module. The coil in copper-coated aluminum wire CCAW confers particular lightness and rigidity to the mobile assembly. These technological elements interact with each other with the result of having a very high frequency extension accredited to 28kHz, a record for a tweeter equipped with a 28mm coil.

High density damping material under the dome and low density absorbent material in the rear chamber, to confer fluidity in emission and high damping in the lower part of the response.
