Mono digital amplifier with DSP - JBL MS-A5001

Digital signal processing with powerful "DSP engine":

All signal processing in the MS Series amplifiers is digital. All output settings, channel assignments and active crossover functions are handled through a powerful and accurate "DSP engine".

Digital signal processing, together with intuitive controls and a large display, simplifies installation and makes it a simple and precise operation. The only analog-type controls concern the input level. Settings are not lost if you disconnect the amplifier or the car battery because the MS-A5001 unit stores all DSP settings in a "non-volatile" memory.

Input level adjustment via display and CD:

To provide the best signal-to-noise ratio and to maximize the resolution of the digital to analog conversion, the maximum input signal level in the A/D converters must be set precisely.

The included installation CD and the procedure described in the manual make the level setting simple and precise. Once set, the input level control should not be used to adjust the system, as with traditional amplifiers. In fact, to set the system level adjustment, you will use the digital output level control. The MS-A5001 unit converts signals arriving on each RCA input connector into digital signals and sends them to the DSP digital signal processor. The DSP sends the signals to the speaker outputs based on the input mixer selections. The system has an input mixer for output channels 1 and 2 that feeds the only mono output channel.

Digital crossover with complete filters and precise adjustment via display:

The crossover consists of a pair of filters, which divide the audio signal into low frequencies (bass) and high frequencies (treble), so as to send to the speakers only the signals that are part of the frequency range reproduced by each of them. In some systems it may be useful to limit the high frequencies or the low frequencies sent to a speaker. The "low-pass" and "high-pass" filters can be used individually, but can also be used together, simultaneously, to create a "band-pass" filter. If you want to use a subsonic or infrasonic filter, you can configure the channel crossover in "band-pass" mode. In this way, the "low-pass" filter will limit the high frequencies sent from the amplifier to the subwoofer, while the "high-pass" filter, appropriately adjusted, will function as an infrasonic filter.

  • Mono amplifier (1 channel) for subwoofer in Class D.

  • Measurements of declared values comply with CEA-2006 directives.

  • CEA-2006 directives are very restrictive and guarantee real values.

  • RMS Power @ 4ohm 1 x 500 W.

  • RMS Power @ 2ohm 1 x 500 W.

  • Frequency response 20 Hz / 270 Hz.

  • Signal-to-noise ratio 106 dB.

  • Standard RCA format audio connection inputs (2 connectors).

  • Amplified signal inputs. Accepts signal from all car radios, even without RCA.

  • For this mode, the RCA inputs are used with the special adapters provided.

  • RCA signal outputs (pre-amp) for cascading (link) connection with other amplifiers.

  • RCA connectors and power outputs with plated quality connectors.

  • Digital adjustments on the front panel, for precise adjustment.

  • The display, the "rotary control" and the 2 navigation buttons facilitate and simplify operations.

  • Audio CD containing special tracks for the correct adjustment of the amplifier.

  • Perfect input level adjustment, with indicators that signal the "right point".

  • "Low-pass" and "high-pass" filters adjustable from 20 Hz to 140 Hz.

  • The filters can be used simultaneously to create "band-pass" filtering.

  • Adjustable "subsonic" filter (in "band-pass" configuration).

  • The filter "slope" is selectable between 6, 12 and 24 dB/octave.

  • Crossover operations (filters) are digital and performed on the display (precision).

  • Precision output gain adjustment, always from the display.

  • Auto power-on function when signal is present (if desired, the "remote" cable is not needed).

  • Admissible impedances from 2 ohm to 8 ohm.

  • Stable at 2 ohm.

  • Fuses total 80 A (2 x 40 A).

  • Indicative dimensions (WxHxD) 183x210x70 mm.
