The advanced DAI-C990 unit is a D/A converter of extreme precision, designed to maintain maximum purity and accuracy of the original audio signal – another very important link in this supreme audio system.

For excellent management of high-density digital audio, we have installed high-quality Burr-Brown DACs. The unit is compatible with our new DVD-Audio Link interface and accepts digital audio data with ultra-high resolution of 192 kHz/24 bit sent from the source – for extremely accurate sound. As for the power supply – which has a significant effect on sound quality – the built-in large-scale DC-DC converter provides extremely clean and stable power with minimal noise.

The unit is also equipped with six gold-plated RCA output terminals for transmitting the converted D/A signals to a power amplifier/amplifiers.

Wide-Range Digital Transmission of DVD Audio

Because this system features complete separation between digital transport and D/A converter to ensure maximum accuracy, it is of fundamental importance to maintain an extremely high-fidelity digital connection between the two devices. The Alpine F#1Status system uses FireWire (IEEE1394) technology, the international standard for digital signal transmission. The DVI-9990R unit is unique in the industry, as it provides wide-range digital transmission of DVD-Audio data between source and processor (or DAC processor) at 24 bit/192 kHz. Only after being processed as full-resolution digital data in the D/A converter and in Multimedia Manager is the signal then converted from digital to analog. As a result, the signal remains clean and pure in its digital form all the way to the amplifiers.

A 6-layer PCB for the DVD-Audio Link circuit and a black copper shield completely eliminate any digital noise generated in the process - specifically the noise that increases with high frequency, due to high resolution and high sampling capacity - ensuring the purest and most accurate sound possible.

IONBUS

In designing the Alpine F#1Status system, we paid particular attention to creating an interface for signal transmission that was ideal and allowed total control from a convenient, central position – namely the driver's seat. With signal purity and accuracy, the newly developed IONBUS data bus transmits digital signals at the incredible speed of 40 kbps – over 1300 times faster than the conventional Ai-NET interface. Various system functionalities and the operating environment itself have been enormously enhanced by the supersonic speed and completely noise-free signal transmission.

The main features are:

Digital Audio Transmission
By keeping all signals in a digital environment, IONBUS truly eliminates any possible degradation in sound quality, especially compared to the analog transmission of the conventional Ai-NET interface. Instead of optical fibers, the system uses a copper cable, which not only optimizes transmission accuracy but also allows all data (audio, control, etc.) to be carried on the same line at high speed – for easier and more convenient system connection.

Directional-Agnostic Connectors
All connectors are identical, regardless of input or output, as data routing is handled by the internal circuit. This directional-agnostic capability facilitates system expansion and the addition of new components to the chain at any time.

Future Compatibility
The broad-band, multi-signal, and high-capacity connection ensures compatibility even with media still in development and with features/characteristics that will be added in the future. As the source increasingly assumes the role of system control, the use of IONBUS offers an unprecedented level of central control. Furthermore, among the advantages of the ultra-high-speed digital bus is not only better sound quality, but also complete isolation from electrical noise in the car.
