Audison bit Tune DSP Auto tuning and Analyzer

The Audison Bit Tune is the revolutionary automatic tuning system capable of working with Audison BIT processors developed with "BIT DRIVE" technology. The Bit Tune also includes a multitude of accessory functions for the verification and electro-acoustic analysis of a car audio system. The objective of the Audison team in developing the bit tune was to speed up the phase of setting the basic parameters for tuning the bit processors (TIME ALIGNMENT, EQUALIZATION, LEVELS, ETC.), ensuring an excellent acoustic result. During this phase, diagnosis of common "connection errors" is also included (CHANNEL/PHASE INVERSION, ABSENCE OF SIGNAL ON A CHANNEL/LINE, ETC), to free the specialist from "routine" work and allow them to focus on "fine-tuning" of the parameters. Only personal interpretation and experience in listening make possible what a machine could never do: "YOUR SOUND". The BIT TUNE can be registered in the AUDISON BIT DRIVE web portal, to receive a PRO license for free or obtain a FULL license. With registration you get an account to access the community of bit tune users and exclusive content dedicated to users. Bit Tune can also be used to conduct verification in an AUDISON FULL DA system, thanks to the presence of digital optical input/output (toslink) with the ability to read the number of bits and the sampling frequency of the incoming signal.

The Bit Tune is composed of:

  • HSM - Hearing Simulation MIC: The most important component and the one where the Audison team focused most of its research, along with the acoustic analysis software. It is a disc-shaped microphone head equipped with 5 high-quality microphone capsules arranged on half of the circumference. The most important function of the HSM is to simulate the listener's head that perceives sound inside the car interior, from this comes the name HEARING SIMULATION. The simulation of sound perception occurs in an accurate manner, thanks to precise design choices: disc diameter that approximates the distance between the two human ear canals, number and positioning of the capsules studied to reproduce the polar pattern of the human hearing apparatus. Through the Bit Drive algorithm, integrated in the PC software, the signals acquired by the HSM microphone are processed in such a way as to produce, taking into account the characteristics of human hearing, a set of configuration parameters for the processor that make the audio system response "natural".
  • LPM - LEVEL AND POLARITY MIC - Single capsule microphone used for setting the system levels and for checking the acoustic phase of the speakers. It needs to be positioned at the center of the car interior through an elastic band that embraces the headrests of the front seats.
  • This microphone was conceived with small dimensions and easily removable from the elastic band, also to check the phase of a speaker by positioning it near it, so as to use the "polarity check" wizard on the software in an optimal way.
  • CMU - CENTRAL MEASUREMENT UNIT - Central unit that performs the function of interface between the electrical stimuli acquired/generated and the management software on the PC. It is equipped with a set of inputs and outputs towards the car audio system and the USB connection for controlling the Audison Bit processor. Furthermore the CMU incorporates a monitor speaker that allows you to listen to the signal arriving at a specific input (preamplified, speaker, digital, optical, etc), or the signal of the EMS (Electro Magnetic Sniffer) function. In case of acoustic disturbances in the audio system, listening to the signal among the various devices allows you to identify where the disturbance is generated.
  • EMS - ELECTROMAGNETIC SNIFFER - This function allows you to identify through a probe provided and listening through the built-in speaker, the area of the car with the greatest electromagnetic presences, which then become unwanted noise in the audio system (alternator noise, disturbances from electronic control units, etc). Once the "noisy" area has been identified, it is possible to avoid it in the allocation of devices and audio cabling.
  • LOAD SIMULATOR - In recent years some manufacturers of standard audio systems have equipped the sources with a diagnostic function to check for possible speaker failures or connection problems. In these cases, if the speaker is disconnected from the source to connect the cables to the input of a processor/amplifier, the system signals a fault or, in the worst case, blocks the source. The Load Simulator function offers the possibility to simulate different types of load by connecting the speaker cables directly to the Speaker-In inputs of the CMU, to verify if the source is equipped with a diagnostic system and, possibly, what type of diagnostic it performs. By setting 3 types of load (No Load, 47 ohm or Speaker Simulator) it is possible to identify what type of dummy load is necessary to connect in parallel to the input of the processor/amplifier.

Summary and overview of main functions

Audison Bit Tune is a set of electronic tools for the automatic tuning of Audison Bit processors, which allow you to improve and simplify audio installations in cars. The system consists of a central unit equipped with a set of microphones, various connections and software to be installed on PC that provides management and analysis of the audio system.

  • Auto tuning: The automatic tuning function includes the Auto EQ, Auto Time Alignment, Level Check tools. Through these it is possible to automatically set:
  1. Time delays
  2. Equalization curve
  3. Output levels
  • Source Check: Performs electrical audio measurements of level and distortion, on sources with pre out or hi level output. It allows you to evaluate graphically, through the "spectrum analyzer" function, whether the source is equalized
  • RTA - Real Time Analyzer: is a spectrum analyzer that measures the acoustic response of the audio system taking into account the characteristics of the vehicle interior. For the measurement it uses the signal acquired by the HSM microphone.
  • Polarity Check: through this tool it is possible to check the electrical phase of the speaker connections of the audio system
  • Oscilloscope: It includes voltmeter, power meter, distortion, and spectrum tools. Through these tools it is possible to carry out electrical measurements of level and distortion of an audio signal and power on amplifiers. The result of the measurements is available in graphic and numerical format.
  • Generator: is a generator of sinusoidal signals (20hz - 20 khz) programmable in frequency and amplitude and at the same time modulable in frequency (sweep). It has a pink noise generator and white noise for acoustic response measurements
  • Player: is a software tool for playing music files with .wav, .vma, .mp3, .flv, .flac extensions. It can handle files with maximum resolution 24 bit / 192 khz.
  • Battery Scope: implements an oscilloscope in DC properly set to check the progress of the vehicle battery voltage during engine start-up or during audio system operation. This tool highlights malfunctions due to instantaneous voltage drops not detectable with a common tester.
  • Optical Cable Test: checks the presence of signal in sources with optical s/pdif output. It allows you to analyze the characteristics of the digital signal (number of bits/frequency, sampling) which can also be listened through the internal speaker of the Bit Tune.
  • Create Report: automatically creates a report (PDF format) containing information concerning:
  1. The installer
  2. The customer
  3. The vehicle
  4. The measurements
  5. The adjustments made through the Processor Auto SetUp
  • Load Simulator: Allows you to verify if, for correct operation, the amplified outputs of the OEM source require the connection of a speaker. The verification is performed by the Bit Tune by inserting a resistive or inductive load. After verification it is necessary to connect a similar load to the OEM source outputs in order to connect an amplifier or a processor to it
  • HI-Level ART Test: checks the activation of devices with Hi-level inputs (speaker in) equipped with automatic turn-on (ART, Automatic Remote Turn On)
  • Line Noise Analyzer: Checks for the presence of audio signal and any disturbances on the analog audio line or digital optical line. The verification is performed by listening to the signal on the internal speaker of the Bit Tune
  • Electromagnetic Sniffer Test: by passing the EMS probe over the electrical parts or cabling of the car it is possible to identify acoustically through the speaker internal to the Bit Tune, the sources of electromagnetic disturbances.
