Hertz HCP 1D - Mono Class D amplifier with integrated crossover and subsonic filter

Power, compact size and competitiveness: these are the objectives at the foundation of the HCP project, expressed in the name itself of the Hertz Compact Power line.
The Hertz team has employed all of its experience and know-how to provide the most adequate and satisfactory response to every user need. Extremely compact dimensions obtained through the use of Class D or AB circuitry, high versatility obtained from numerous configuration controls, considerable power levels, all of this in a single product line, highly competitive and accessible to all.

The HCP amplifiers boast innovation, character and tradition, enclosed in a minimalist and, at the same time, captivating design; a project created to make easy what is generally difficult: with Hertz Compact Power even the most complex audio systems become simple to install.
Thus the Hertz team has successfully overcome another challenge: creating entry-level products without compromises, respecting the design standards of the Hertz brand.

  1. Compact design, made with an extruded aluminum heatsink, whose top side effectively transfers the heat generated by the power electronic components.
  2. Special balanced input circuitry for high rejection of electromagnetic interference in the Pre-In or Speaker-In inputs.
  3. Speaker-In inputs (for factory head units) and RCA-In inputs (for aftermarket head units).
  4. ART, Automatic Remote Turn-On/Off, automatically turns the amplifier on and off when the factory head unit turns on and off (activatable/deactivatable, only with Speaker-In).
  5. Power supply with multi-wire winding transformer, Low-ESR capacitors 105°C, D-Class output stage stable at 2 Ω.
  6. Pre-out outputs, also available with Speaker-In level inputs, with continuously adjustable Hi-Pass filter from 50 to 250 Hz; they allow you to create a band-pass filter with the amplifier for the front woofer to eliminate subwoofer frequencies.
  7. Selectable full range power output, for powerful dual-mono audio systems.
  8. Bass Boost (50 Hz) adjustable to 12 dB, for deeper bass.
  9. 24 dB Lo-Pass filter continuously adjustable from 50 to 250 Hz.
  10. SUBSONIC filter (24 dB – 25 Hz) useful for removing very low subsonic frequencies from the music signal, to prevent damage to the subwoofer.
  11. Continuously variable phase control 0-180° to optimize the alignment of the woofer's low frequencies with those of the subwoofer.
  12. Optional remote volume control (HRC), to adjust the subwoofer volume level directly from the cabin

HCP: THE TECHNOLOGY
The HCP heatsink is made of extruded aluminum, an unsurpassed material for lightness, strength and heat dissipation capacity.

To reduce dimensions, the power transistors are arranged between the PCB and the upper part of the chassis that collects the heat, from there it is then transferred to the lateral surfaces, equipped with fins, to be dissipated. The Front End section, equipped with a complete and excludable crossover system to allow connection with processors, preamplified outputs with crossover on HCP 1D and multiple adjustments, offers the user infinite possibilities for system connections, for any configuration and with any source. The inputs, a point of pride of the Hertz R&D team, are available both on RCA connections for preamplified connection (Pre-In) with aftermarket head units, and on high-level connections (Speaker-In) for connection with the source integrated in the vehicle. The Pre-In and Speaker-In inputs are equipped with special balanced circuitry that guarantees high rejection of electromagnetic interference typical of the car environment, ensuring acoustic results free of noise.

The Speaker-In inputs are also equipped with the ART function, Automatic Remote Turn-On/Off, which turns the amplifier on and off based on the source's operation, eliminating the need for a remote turn-on signal, generally missing from factory audio systems. The ART circuit, refined for some time by the Hertz team, guarantees turn-on without delays and avoids annoying noise at shutdown, furthermore the function is manually deactivatable through a switch on the control panel: in those cases where the factory source has long delays at shutdown or the amplifier's restart is controlled by auxiliary activities such as door reopening, you can disconnect the ART function and use the remote input via a manual command, avoiding excessive battery drain.

The crossover section of the Hertz Compact Power amplifiers allows extreme flexibility in creating any audio system configuration: Bass Boost to enhance low frequencies; Lo-pass, Hi-Pass, Subsonic, Phase and Full Range to create complex audio systems; adjustable with slope at 12 dB/Oct. and 24 dB/Oct. according to the model. In particular, the HCP 1D mono amplifier is equipped with Hi-Pass preamplified outputs that allow you to create a Band-Pass on the front woofer. While the four-channel HCP 4D model has an extended frequency range of the filter, to be used also in multi-channel active 2-way front systems.

Aboard the HCP electronics, a power stage with multi-wire winding transformer and Low-ESR capacitors 105°C, works at high efficiency guaranteeing the energy needed to the Class D output stage (in HCP 1D, HCP 4D and HCP 5D) and Class AB (in HCP 2 and HCP 4), to make them stable at 2 Ω load and ensure maximum power delivery. With both the HCP 1D and the HCP 5D it is possible to control the subwoofer remotely via the HRC, Hertz Remote Control accessory, connected to the specific Remote Control socket; this allows you to adjust the volume level with extreme precision even while comfortably seated inside the car. The HRC knob has a center detent where the subwoofer level is calibrated optimally. From this position the level can be increased by 6 dB or reduced until canceled, you can always find the optimal volume by repositioning the knob on the Center Detent.
